This term in Year 8 English students have been learning about different advertising techniques. Students have been introduced to the concept of Logos (logic), Pathos (emotion) and Ethos (ethics) and how advertisers use them to persuade their target markets. So far in this unit, students have completed a pre-assessment which asked them to “sell” a random product. Some of the submissions were not only persuasive, but very fun! (See examples below).
Students have recently completed PAT testing to reflect on their strengths and any gaps in their knowledge.
Students should be having conversations with their teachers about their results to develop focussed mathematical goals for the end of the year.
A focus on individual student needs will allow teachers to support them in developing their understanding of Number, Algebra, or Measurement. This will help prepare students for the challenges that next year brings.
As the year heads to a close, drama students are busy preparing for final performances. The senior classes are starting to film the short films they have been planning. They will be filming in various locations around the school. The final products will be shown towards the end of term.
The grade 8 classes have finished their unit on exploring the elements of comedy and have filmed some very funny sketches which will also be shown later in the year. They have just been introduced to the works of William Shakespeare. And thus begins their lifelong journey of the works of The Bard.
This term our senior students had the opportunity to learn about inclusion in sport through the Physical disABILTY in Sport program and hear a powerful presentation from the BodySafe Education Program thanks to Paraquad Tasmania.
Students participated in wheelchair basketball and AFL learning rules and skills involved.
The BodySafe presentation focused on risk taking behaviours and risk taking decisions.

On Thursday and Friday last week, we held our Athletics Carnival. It was a great two days full of team work and house pride. Congratulations to all involved.
The winning house is GRACE!

Primary School State Athletics Championships
The Primary School State Athletics Championships was held recently at St Leonards and grade 10s from our Sports Science classes volunteered to run events, marshal athletes and hand out ribbons.
Our students represented Queechy in the highest order. Organiser of the State event Peter said ‘Queechy students were punctual, courteous, flexible, adaptable, well organised and highly motivated. There were terrific in their dealing with both adults and primary school students’.
Well done to those students who represented our school so well.
Ava in grade 8 represented Queechy across the weekend at the Tasmanian All Schools. She placed 2nd in u16 girls hammer and competed up an age group in u18 javelin and again placed 2nd. Congratulations Ava!
Jasmine & Tanisha were presented with our shield for winning the Reclink Tasmania Netball championships recently at the Silverdome! Well done to all students involved.
A reminder to families that end of year reports will be distributed on Wednesday 21st December for grade 10's and on Monday 19th December for grade 7's, 8's and 9's.
The report will show your child’s learning achievement on a 9-point visual scale which replaces A-E ratings for students in Prep to Year 10.
The 9-point scale shows more specifically where your child’s learning achievement is against the expected standard for their year level.
There will be no teacher comments on the report.

Survey for Families: Out-of-Area Enrolments
The Department for Education, Children and Young People is reviewing the procedure for out-of-area enrolments at Tasmanian Government schools. We are interested to learn more about your perspectives on the benefits of attending your local government school, and the reasons families seek enrolment at a school outside their local intake area. You are invited to have your say using an online survey at https://forms.office.com/r/CX6hgsUvcX.
