Sporting Success
Congratulations to all staff and students involved in the NHSSA winter sports roster. We have had many teams competing across Football, Soccer and Netball during terms 2 and 3.
Last week saw an almost unprecedented level of success for our senior boys and girls’ football and senior soccer.
I had the pleasure watching these games last Wednesday at Prospect Park in challenging, windy conditions.
After a tight first half the Division 1 soccer team scored twice and ended up narrow winners against a much-improved Brooks team.
The senior girl’s football was a very strong, full-team performance with a solid result, kicking away from Prospect in the final quarter.
A large crowd turned out to support both Riverside and Queechy in the Senior boy’s football. This was a tight game with Riverside coming back to be only 7 points down heading into the last quarter. Our boys stood up and showed great determination and courage to run out the eventual winners. I was impressed with how this team has come together under the leadership of Mr Tepper. The games this year were hard-fought but fair with a significant level of respect shown to opposing teams during the competition.
As a result of winning the Northern Title our boys qualified for the Hawks Cup, a round robin competition against Burnie High, (NW) and St Virgils, (South) at the Longford Football Ground.
Tassie Hawks Cup Results:
Game 1: Queechy defeated Burnie High
Game 2: St.Virgils Defeated Queechy High
Game 3: St.Virgils Defeated Burnie High
Grand Final: St.Virgils Defeated Queechy High
Goal Scorers:
Sam 7, Harry 4, Jaxson 2, Zac 2, Hunter 1, Oscar 1, Curtis 1, Louis 1, Axell 1.
Best Players: Oscar, Sam, Lachlan, Cameron, Harry, Jaxson, Zac.
We are very proud of all our teams this year and look forward to defending the three titles in 2022.
White Card Training
Thank you to Allan Warren for organising another 15 Year 9/10 students to complete their white card training. This nationally recognised training is an important first step for students wishing to complete work-placements or apply for apprenticeships in the building, construction, or electrical industries. Well done to all who completed this rigorous two-day program!
